My learning with homeopathy (the use of substances as remedies in very dilute forms) began over ten years while riding the trains in India. I often found myself sat amongst other tourists, all dealing with a large variety of ailments, which we discussed at length, on long overnight rides. Equipped with my homeopathic first aid kit, I quickly learned the benefits of homeopathy. We watch diarrhea, nausea, heat stroke, and emotional aggravations, stop as the little white homeopathic pellets reached people’s mouths.
You may have seen the plastic tubes in the health food store, you may have even tried one, and thought, maybe it worked, may be it didn’t. The truth that I have learned is that homeopathy is both a science and an art form, to take one pellet randomly based on symptoms may or may not work.
As described above, you can take remedies acutely (meaning for a bruise, a dental extraction or traveler’s diarrhea) – and if prescribed well, at right dosage and interval, this medicine can be highly effective for alleviating suffering. While on clinical externship in Kenya, and while sitting in at births, I have seen homeopathy work often and well to support ‘acute’ situations.
“Why prescribe for a part of the patient when you have the whole patient with you? The patient was sick before the glands were.” ~Hayes, Homeopath
What I did not realize in the early days, was that to study and practice homeopathy well, you needed to study the entire natural world. As remedies range from the milks of mammals, to the feathers of birds, and to the minerals that make up the earth. As I learned more, and my studies deepened, with teachers across North America, Europe and India, I understood that to prescribe well, meant that you were in fact watching the patterns in each individual, how they understood wellness, how they manifested disease, and in fact, which substance out in nature was the right match for those patterns.
During times of stress, “…which plant, animal or mineral did you copy to survive?” ~ Rajan Sankaran, Indian Homeopath
To understand how to heal the root of a physical or emotional symptom, I needed to understand the whole, and how the individual interacts within their own perspective of the whole.
“A whole system view would include all the factors involved and examine how they relate to each other and how they work as a whole. To deal with a whole system we can’t leave anything out as irrelevant. Intuition is as important as rationality, we must address both scientific and artistic approaches, both material and spiritual needs, the small as well as the big , what we feel as well as what we think, what we perceive as well as what we imagine.” ~Unknown
Homeopathy is therefore a study of the entire natural world, and a study of you, the individual, and your relationship with yourself and the world around you. We are looking for the substance that may be a good match for unwinding your survival patterns. When that match is found, emotional and physical symptoms begin to clear, energy levels rise, immune system and vital force are benefited.
‘To stimulate your body to cure itself, to start its own healing process, a remedy closest to your individual symptom picture is prescribed. Healing now starts within your body, mending defects and strengthening your health and immune system; this without any danger of damaging side effects.’- Alize Timmerman, Belgian Homeopath
I have found homeopathy exceptional for alleviating old patterns of stuck emotion, and as such patterns begin to heal, based on the speed of the individual’s own wisdom, physical symptoms begin to follow. Since it doesn’t fall within current western paradigms (in my opinion current science is not asking the appropriate questions to understand how it works/heals), why not let yourself experience it and decide for yourself?
